Book Sort Procedures
1. When students come in, they will see that there are signs up with the genres listed: Classics, Memoir/Biography, Fantasy, Sci Fi, Mystery, Romance, Animals, General YA Lit, Historical Fiction, Adventure, Sports, etc.
2. I will tell them that today they will be helping me to sort the books for the classroom library. For each genre, I will show them the sample book and explain what that genre is all about.
3. I will ask them where they should look on the book to find the information that will tell them where to put the book. We will put this information on the board.
4. Students will be asked to go to the bookshelves and grab some books. They will put the books in the areas with the appropriate genre.
5. After all the books have been put, each student will be assigned a genre and they will be responsible for putting index cards in the books with the title of the book at the top. They will also put them into bins and make signs for the bins.
