Defining Change

Objectives

Students will be able to ...

  • brainstorm on a given topic
  • define "change" and discuss differing definitions

Procedures

1. Do Now: In Writing Workshop, students will brainstorm - either freewriting or clustering - on "change"

2. We will discuss their ideas and put them on the board. I will lead them into coming up with definitions of the word and how those definitions may change.

3. As this is the first lesson introducing the broader topic of the semester, I will preview for the students what the semester will look like.

4. If there is time left, students will freewrite on the topic - trying to tell about a time they changed or a time they witnessed someone else change.

Assessment

  • Can students brainstorm and discuss the topic? Are they interested in it? Do they easily come up with stories about change?
