New Amsterdam

1. Do Now: When the Europeans come to this area, how do you think they feel about the Lenape? How do you think the Lenape feel about them?

2. Students will receive a reading and we will read it together. We will talk about why they came here and how the Lenape must have felt about that.

3. Students will be put into pairs and they will receive a copy of the photograph. They will have to label as much as the can in the pictures - people, animals, the place. They will then write a one sentence caption that summarizes the picture.

4. Students will pick either a European or an Indian in the picture and write down - from that person's perspective - what they are thinking about at that particular time.

5. If there is time, we will share their writing.
