Reviewing Notes

Objectives

Students will be able to ...

  • take notes so they can review notes at home (2-column format)
  • read over notes and in left column write down thoughts, questions, connections, definitions, important points

Procedure

1. We will discuss what students do with their notes after they take them in class.

2. I will show students how to take notes in two columns - the notes go in the right column and then thoughts/questions go in the left.

3. I will pass out an article and I will have one student read the article outloud as I take notes on the Smart Board using the two column methods.

4. I will read the second part of the article and students will take notes/listen, then fill in the left column with their thoughts/questions.

5. Homework - students will read the third part of the article and take notes in two columns.

Assessment

Looking at students' notes, are they able to take notes in two columns - making connections, asking questions, etc in the left column?
