Procedure
1. Do Now: In writing workshop, write a description of a lemon.
2. We will share their descriptions.
3. Students will be put into pairs and each pair will be given a lemon. They will have to get to know their lemon well enough to pick it out from all the other lemons. They will spend time examining their lemons.
4. Student pairs will put their lemons in one container. One by one they will come up and pick them out again.
5. After all students have their lemons back, they will then write a description of their lemon so that I can pick it out.
6. After all the students have written their descriptions, I will challenge them to give me their description to pick out the lemon.
Assessment
Looking at their conversations and writing, are they writing descriptions that distinguish similar things apart from each other?
